The Department of Social Work came in to being on14-08-2014. National College is the pioneering institution to open the portals social work education at under graduate level, by getting the approval from the University of Kerala to start regular BSW course for the first time within the jurisdiction of the University and known as the best BSW college in Trivandrum.

Social work is a practice-based profession which empowers people to deal with social issues and work for their well-being. Known as the best BSW college in Trivandrum, National college focus on human rights, social justice and human relationships are of paramount importance while providing various services. Three types of interventions, at individual (Micro), small group (Mezzo) and community (Macro) levels, are made in social work.

Social work is multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and field work oriented. The major domains of activities are counselling, social advocacy, liaising, rehabilitation, reformation, organizing awareness campaigns, welfare activities, organizing training programmes for growth and development, community work etc. Potential job placement available in our country are Counsellor, Rehabilitator, Liaison Officer, Welfare Officer, Social Worker, Teacher, Trainer, Therapist, Researcher, Community Worker etc.
