Details of the Programme and Duration

The Programme leads to Bachelors Degree in the electronics subject. Course extends for a period of six semesters. The Programme of study shall be by regular attendance for the requisite number of lectures, practical training and other means. Students be admitted to the First Degree Programmes in the Faculties of Science.



The admission to the MSc degree course shall be as per the rules and regulations of the University. Students admitted under this programme are governed by the Regulations in force

M.Sc Electronics

Post Graduate Degree Programme

M.Sc. Electronics is a two years postgraduate degree programme that covers the area of studies like Electronics, digital and analogue signal, semiconductors, IC etc. The course is designed to train students to become professionals as per the need of the industry. The course study programme involves a detailed study of topics related to the branch combined with training and comprehensive project internships.

M.Sc. Electronics is the combination of various science subjects like physics, computer science and electrical. The curriculum of M.Sc. Electronics includes core subjects, Elective Courses, which is covered in the duration of two years divided into four semesters.

The course is designed with a purpose to inculcate skills that are relevant for industry and cater to the requirements of the R&D department and industry. After the completion of M.Sc Electronics, the candidate can work as professionals in various public and private sectors like R&D, ISRO, BSNL, Bharat Electronics Limited, Telecom, DRDO, IT, defence, medical, Intel, UST global, Wipro,  Infosys, TCS, etc.

Course Details


The eligibility for admission to MSc Electronics degree course in affiliated institutions under Kerala University is a BSc Degree in  Electronics/ Physics/ Computer Science/ BCA with not less than 50 % marks in optional subjects or 2.0 CGPA (s) out of 4.0 or 5.0 CCPA(s) out of 10.0 subject to the usual concessions allowed for backward classes and other communities as specified from time to time.

Programme structure and duration

The duration of the programme shall be 4 semesters. The duration of each semester will be 70 working days. The programme shall include two types of courses. Core courses and Elective courses. There will be five core courses and two practical courses in first semester. In the second semester there will be three core courses, one elective course and two practical course. In the third semester there will be three core course, one elective course, one practical course and one mini project. In the fourth semester there will be one core courses, one elective course, a seminar and main project. At the end of the programme there will be a comprehensive viva-voce which covers questions from all courses in the programme.

Course Objectives & Outcomes


Electronics course develops the skills of logical and abstract thinking.

 This science is to a large extent based on the laws of physics, whereas their application in practice requires creative thinking.


Electronics syllabus

The syllabus includes subjects like vacuum tubes, diodes, transistors, and integrated circuits. This electronics sector provides extensive options for candidates who are interested in manufacturing and designing electronic devices.

 It has become difficult for us to do work without using the electronic devices. We live in a generation where robots and artificial intelligence are capable of doing human work with more ease and efficiency.


Subjects Covered

Subjects basically studied under this program are Analog electronics, Some common programming languages, Mathematics, Microcontrollers, Network analysis, Quantum mechanics, Internet of Things and applications, Fundamentals of Electronics, Signals, and Devices as well as Computational Skills are also covered.


Career Opportunities of the course

The BSc Electronics degree program serves as a basis for higher studies in this field, for example, M.Sc., MBA, MCA, M.Phil., M Tech. and Ph.D. Degree in the branch of physics, Electronics, optical, and other relevant field. After the successful completion of these degrees, candidates are eligible to apply for the post of a lecturer in any university or college.
